Getting ready to install new front leaf springs. Got all new hardware, shackles and rear bolts. These springs are designed to achieve a 3 inch drop on the front end and might get close to 4 with the v8. Steering is stock.

Has anyone who went this direction to drop the front have any problems?

I thank you in advance for any comments or recommendations....Ken

Yep, I did it on my 1950 1/2 ton. Has a 6 cyl, with stock steering box, and 1 inch tie rod. It did lower it pretty good, and rides decent. There is some bump steer. I installed high pressure gas shocks for lowered trucks from CPP, I think it was. One problem I did have was the alignment. BE VERY CAREFULL! when driving it for the first time. I had a very SEVERE shimmy above 30mph. I almost crashed the truck. It turned out to be a caster issue. I will double check, but I think I ended up having to take out all the caster shims to get it back to the correct caster. Then it drove nice and smooth. I also installed a front sway bar. I recommend it. Good luck, and feel free to ask any questions......Mike

    Bump stops!

What you got to be careful of is the axle to chassis clearance, dont want it riding on the bump stops or you will be in a whole bunch of trouble, im going for a stock axle dropped set up so i will still have plenty of suspension travel and no bottoming out!

But beware of the tie rod banging frame or oil pan.

This project has stalled a bit since I cannot break the nuts on the rear bolts to get the stinkin' original springs off. Any ideas short of putting it on a rack to get better leverage? I am also trying not to have to cut the bolts also.

    Any ideas?
