I have been having trouble with the rochestor b carb on my truck, boiling over etc.. anyway just bought a rebuilt replacement carb at swap meet. rochestor b again.

put it on the truck today and I cant get the thing to idle smooth, no matter how much i fuss with the adjustments.

Looking at the posts on the forum, looks ike recommendation is to tune-up first.. so installed new plugs, new points, new condensor, adjusted valves.
    still rough idle.

so now I guess I need to dwell points, and check timing.
question: I have a 12v timing light truck is 6v will timing light work? or do i need to run it off a separate 12v battery? or do I need to by a special one? same question for tach and dwell I have one but don't know if it will work on a 6v system.

Sometimes they'll work ,others not so much , then you'll use a spare battery or park SWMBO's car next to your truck .

Thanks Nate, i see on a earlier post, you mentioned the heat riser should not move when you rev the engine.. funny today when I was trying to get the carb adjusted i noticed it moving alot as I reved the engine.. at the time I thought "good its working" now reading the earlier post I will have to look closer tomorrow..

Are there any photos or diagrams of a correctly installed heat rizer spring?

    Heat riser

Here's a link to a couple of pages that talks about the heat riser. Hopes it helps.

    Heat Risor Spring Installation

    It's easy - Peazy :

Remove the spring and let the valve flop open ~ Now install the spring so it barely hold the valve in the other (closed) direction ~ this way , when the spring heats up , it looses tension and the weight will automatically open the valve .

    Drive safely .
