So what are you guys using on your floors and firewall and roof? I was thinking of using the Dynamat stuff with a carpet kit over it. I have already ran my wires and all so I need something that will install with everything in place already. Does anyone think the Dynamat and carpet wont be enough or just bad in general.

Dynamat is expensive. I used Damplifier from www.secondskinaudio.com I did the firewall, floor, roof, and inside the doors. I bought 40sq feet and have a few sheets left. I also sprayed truck bed coating on the back of the cab and bottom. I also bought a sound deadening pad from CP. It was all worth while, nice and quiet. Chris

    And your battery is where?

Hey Chris, did you leave your battery under the floor? I will do all this as well, but I just can't picture how you can have a battery in its original position and service it if all this is down.

    Out of site!!

Hey Zig, I left my battery in the original spot, out of site. Always liked em under the floor. Just have to lift the carpet and the sound deadener pad. No big deal. Chris.

I also used Second Skin and Herculiner (bedliner) the underside of cab and the lower section of the firewall.

Dynamat and Hushmat work wonders. Puit it on every surface you can reach. Then add some of that high tech silver insulation or the jute with the silver heat barrier. You will not believe the difference.

    Dynamat & Carpet

Yes they're great but you can find other brands of sound insulation just make SURE it's a " Closed Cell " typ of your truck will rust away soon...

It's smart to run a pad from above the windshield all they way back and down to 1/2" above the floor , you can glue it inside the door skins too but remember to ALWAYS leave at least 1/2" before any edge , pinchweld etc. , etc. so prevent rust and dirt from getting a toe hold .

The battery box is simple : cut a hole and glue the piece to the box's cover...

You'll be amazed at how quiet a 1940's tech truck can be , I don't even have mufflers and conversation or radio listening is easy even @ freeway speeds...

    Hey Nate,
If you don't mind me asking, what type of pad did you use?

    Pictures???

Thanks Chris! But how do you deal with the edge? Surely your carpet/pad doesn't just sit there with the edges showing?

If you could post a picture of your floor, I'd appreciate it greatly! (Before I do something crazy like putting the battery up in the engine compartment...)

    battery, sound deadening

    Hi guys,
As far as the battery goes , an Optima will pretty much make that a non-issue. extremely low self-discharge rate, and no need to add water.
And for sound deadening, have any of you used Bituthene (aka Grace Ice and Water Shield) for the first layer on the inside? It is an peel-and-stick bituminous membrane used in (among other things) roofing. WAY sticky, and doesn't let water thru. Just a thought.... my 53 (Penny) will hopefully be as quiet as my 04 GMC when done.

We have sealed the battery cover to the rest of the floor for years. A box with a hinge at the bottom on one end and a locking pin at the other lets the battery come out the bottom. Side post battery and cable ends finish it up. There is a stainless battery box on the market where the box, battery and all slide out of a bracket via a quick release. We used one on a Model A but it is pricey. For charging you can hook onto the battery cable post on the starter on a six cylinder or on the battery wire at the back of the alternator on a V8. Here is a photo showing the quick release box, it is hard to see with everything else being shining but it is just to the right of the pinion yoke in the picture. There is a 48 in the shop right now with the hinged bottom box which I'll try to get a shot of when we get it on the lift (it's really low).
