That may not be stock, or it may be the starter push button installed on some 54s. Or I may be complete off base.

po had the starter button installed below dash on same side. this is not a push switch, no wires connected to back of it.

My guess is that the PO had some fog lights or other such accessory. When removed he probably thought the knob looked better than the hole it was in.

I don't know what it is or does, but I have one in my 54 chevy truck also.

Mr. Green , have you looked at the back of yours , did it have any wiring connected. mine did not, but it is a switch of some kind don't know for what for i have not seen any signs of any kind of lights or other device mounted on the truck. but it does look cool sitting there on the dash!

I agree that it is an add-on. the pushbutton for hydra-matic solenoid starter is directly above the headlight switch and not that high. The assembly manual gives location specs for it.

    Acessory Dash Switch

That sure looks like a correct , hard to find fog light switch to me , I'm sure someone has the GM acessory booklet for '54 trucks to clarify this , or maybe
it can be found over on The Old Car Manual Project...

It might even be a '54 only RPO .

I'd use it for fog lights or maybe a rear mnounted loading light , something useful like that .

    It's a mystery to me

    No wires, no clues.
