Anybody got any tips on dealing with rust? Clear rustproofing? 1/2 mile from beach in Kailua Hawaii. [http://zekethirty.tripod.com/52dodge/52photo13.html] Aloha, Greg Kemp
:9 Aloha Greg I have been out there and I know what you are dealing with. I would rustproof it just the same as if it were in Michigan. Try Eastwood for rustproofing and supplies. They suggest products for different areas. I would also keep it washed out underneath and all over. Can't let that salt air get into the cracks and seams. Tom
Thanks Tom. I did a search for Eastwood rustproofing. Couldn't find a website. Do you know it? I did find some posts where it is included with POR15. That stuff is real expensive too. Is that what you are talking about? I am interested in a clear treatment. My panel truck has lots of surface area that needs rustproofing. It has no rust yet... Thanks and mahalo, Greg [http://zekethirty.tripod.com/52dodge/52photo13.html]
Hello Framer, The website is http://www.eastwoodco.com there are some rust proofing products there. Take a look. Thanks, Mikef
I used Eastwoods Corollis on the bottom of my cab then used a top coat for the finish. Went on well and seems to be holding up well. Check out the pictures of this finish and process on my web page. Look under CAB. http://www.geocities.com/richmond2_99/64PU.html
:9 Speedball, I have been considering using Eastwood's Corollis on my '69's cab floor both inside and out. Glad to hear that it can be top coated easily. I've heard that Por 15 can't be top coated. Kind of limits it's usefulness. Tom
There is a product called Rass-O-Nil that works great. Its mainly for rustproofing raw metal that needs to be painted and look good. You can even fill over it if need be. it can be purchased at www.autobodystore.com I strongly reccomend it. For parts where it wont need to be perfect, such as on the bottome or underneath carpet Zero rust works well also.
thanks for the rust tips guy! This big truck is a full time project!! Aloha, Greg http://zekethirty.tripod.com/52dodge/chevypanel2.jpg
