Took the truck out today drove from Here up to Fraizer Park and back, gone close to 4 hours.
The 342 gears are nice on the highway, the engine just purred. Going up the L.A. side of the Grapevine was breeze only had to down shift to second twice.
Excluding the smell the truck picked up from the rear end shop, kat p_ _s :(. the ride was great. :D

    Good News !

Very good , soon you'll be camping in Death Valley with me and my '49....

How long since the last valve adjustment and timing check ? . I ask because that good hard run will have cleaned out all the carbon and the valves might have closed up a bit .

Ditto the dwell & timing , if you can lay hands on a timing light with an advance dial , you can set the all in timing for best power , economy and easiest runing , this all translates to longer engine life as well as breezing over the Grapvine in 3Rd. or 4Th. gear.....

I assume you've checked the gear oil level in that new pumpkin.....

    Nate,
The truck will go in for its first oil change t this coming Friday at the people that rebuilt the engine. I'll have them check the pumpkin at that time.
As sooner as I get the fuel tank issue fixed, the wipers, heater, set belts, and the driver’s door working okay, I'll be able to take that drive into the desert and into also Az. .
By the way, I use a lot of rat traps with a steel cable lanyard on they to condition squirrels, which eat the little cactus&suculants I peddle. I also use have a heart traps because of the area I'm in I had to stop using my clam shell type traps. This rat trap method also works for conditioning raccoons that want to hunt in my fish ponds.:D

    Zig,
We are about to eat breakfast and take another ride, out highway 210 heading east to it's end and then come back. That will be more than 6 hours driving.

For today I did not get on the 210 highway.
My other half and our dog Wendy(a fat grey and white Chihuahua) left the house and headed up the 118 to the 405 to the 5 then thru to the 14 and up to Palmdale, then east to Victorville, north to Barstow. From there we went west to Mojave, and down to Palmdale then on home a total of 315 miles + or minus. I can never tell the mileage with the New made in china speedo repop . So I had to Google map the mileage just now, I'm really thinking of putting back in the old dirty one. The trip is about the same as going to the property in AZ. . As far as the ride goes, nice very very nice. :)

    Gerald,
It does Not work correctly. Runs 10 to 15 miles an hour slow and it only goes up to 50-55, so when I'm up at traffic flow, the needle is at about 52 location.
The old one worked but I wanted that new look!!! :(
Hope this helps, if you can find one out of another or fix yours. I have found a lot of the China stuff is poor quality and or just plan junk. imho

    Thanks, C!

I'm living my dream through reading your posts! Sounds like the _perfect_ way to spend the day!
Hey~ about your old speedo. Have you given any thought to just redoing the face and numbers? That's what I did. (Plus replaced the all important chrome ring!:D)

    Just a thought...

    BTW~ those aren't custom gauges I found.
While I had everything apart, and since I'm not stuck on original paint schemes, I went ahead and painted the face plates red to match my dash. Since I have the coveted GMC style truck, I went ahead and used the tan(?) GMC gauge decals. I'm pleased with it, and it's all original equipment.

    Zig,

Fixing my old speedo is looking better every time I drive the truck.
Glad you like hearing about the trips, I really enjoy being able to leave the area and not worry about getting a ticket for it smoking. :D

    Robert,

It was good meeting you it was good you were able to come by.
Next time maybe I can send you home with some cactus that has no thorns and stays small :). That traffic between Pasadena and the 605 is nasty at times.
