Brand 'F' Movies I went through a Model 'A' stage , has four of them , the best one being a DeLuxe 1931 Pickup . (yes , I kmow , save your flames) Anyways , during that time I purchased a video tape of a 30 minute movie commercial (I and a few members here remember car commercials before movies in the theatre..) made by the Brand 'F' people in 1928 , telling all about the wonderful new car they were releasing (the 'A' Model) , it has all different pictures than that one linked to and shows lots of A Models driving around including 50 MPH down railroad tracks , zooming across ploughed fields , driving brandy new out of the Highland Park assembly plant etc... I have no idea how to get it onto a DVD or otherwise share it Interesting stuff to be sure . Remember this : more old T & A Models survive because they had better raw materiels used in the initial build and better built bodies , not because they were better vehicles than Babbit Pounders ~ I know having worked both hard on the farm and over the road in daily driver service . I'll take a Chevy any day over a brand 'F' IF it's a steel body ~ GM's wood framed bodies from the teens & twenties were crap , poorly designed and even worse build quality , I dunno what kind of wood , prolly soft pine as it gave out quickly unlike Brand 'F's bodies as they were better design and made with hard wood , ASH .
Who among us know this interesting tidbit? Henry F*rd basically invented the charcoal briquette! He had so much extra wood bits from the 15 million plus Model "T"'s and gazillion Model "A"'s, all of which used wood for the sub-frame for attaching doors, etc, that he would try to burn the scraps, but couldn't keep up with the demand. So he figured out a way to make a profit by taking burned wood bits and market them as charcoal. Thus, today many of us use Kings"Ford" charcoal to enjoy those juicy hamburgers, steaks, hotdogs, etc etc that we love so much.
Locking hubs I didn't see the guy get out and lock the hubs into 4 wheel drive! Maybe they just pushed a button and got four wheel and the fly~ Can you believe what they drove those over? Can you imagine driving your AD off a cliff like that? Great video, even if it was about F@#*s
Off A Cliff Well yeah , sort of : Back in 1969 or so , we were coming back from a dump run in the old rusty 1962 K-10 (4X4 1/2 ton pickup) and as we turned left off Rt. 109 , the right front rim split , the tire went sailing and we went wide and missed the ramp and went down the 75' ditch @ 30 MPH or so.... Exciting , yes ! fun , not so much . no seatbelts back then but we only dented the truck a little bit when it went through the fence at the bottom of the right of way and didn't hit any trees at all . I guess you'd have to be familiar with rural highways to know they'd built it up 75" above the swampy land and the side roads came up steep ramp like cuts , we missed that . A 2 mile walk for a spare tire and jack handle etc. and we were back in business . Best of all : the truck was empty at the time of I would have had to pick up all the spilled garbage......
