It's not the rim width that will matter, it's the wheel backspacing. There are too many variables for each individule vehicle.

There is only ONE way of getting correct results and that way is to measure the wheel opening and mounting points.

Here are some simple instructions http://www.bigblockdart.com/techpages/wheelspacing.shtml

Dennis is exactly right, there are many variables to backspacing, something to think about too, is if youve changed out the rear axle to a bigger, newer axle, there wider and that will effect your backspacing, if you care about rotating tires, youll want to take this into consideration to make sure you backspace accordingly so that you can swap the rears to fronts. and dont forget the spare tire!!!! you never know when you might need one of those.

in addition to dvals info ive added a very useful chart (first link) to work with on your wheel sizing and the second link is some good reading material that i hope will help. the first link with the chart is what i used to come up with the custom sizes i used on my truck, print it out, fill it out, and call the wheel maker of your choice, they will thank you for having the chart filled out, even better if you can fax them a copy. the link is from http://www.wheelvintiques.com they were very helpful to me and they built me a excellent product for a very good price.

you will need adobe reader on your computer for the first link.

I've been able to fit a 15x15 wheel on the V8 era trucks without narrowing the frame - it's all in the wheel backspace. I currently run a 16x12 wheel with a tire that has an 18-inch section width and I have 7 inches between the inside edge of the tire and the closest part of the frame. You should have no problem with a 10-inch wide wheel - you might run into tire rub on the fender before you get tire rub on the frame. Good luck and post some photos of the wheels you decide to get.
