My question is the're 3 wires running from the firewall back to the tail lights. I'm guessing that one is for the licences plate, and the 2 others are for the tail lights. I have a new plug w/ 3 wires running from it, and the ones that are on there now have 2 wires. I'm having some confusion on the electrical. This problem is only when my head lights are on, the left when doesn't come on. I've tried putting the passenger side in the left side, still no light. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi David, I had a similar problem on mine. I removed the light assembly and found rust where the ground connects. I scraped to bare metal and replaced assembly and that fixed my problem. Hope you get it solved.

My 64 has 3 wires also. The wires are Brown, Yellow and Dark Green. The Brown is a common wire and splits at the plug in the rear to both tail lights and the license lamp. The Yellow is the left hand turn signal. The Dark Green is the right hand turn signal. Ground for tail lights and license light is through their mounts. Remove the lights, clean the mounts well and reinstall. Good luck.
