My engine idles high. I can get it down to about 1000 rpm but no less. I am by far not good with mechanics so I am not sure where to start. I was going to adjust the timing, but it appears you need to set the timing at idle rpm... well that will be hard to do with the fast idle. So I guess I need to figure out how to lower the idle. Any help would be appreciated.

I should mention that the idle screws are adjusted so they do not make contact to the "plate" (Sorry, I don't know the names). I also have dual Rochester B's.

I just don't know where to start lowering the idle

Casey, if you want to bring it over to the school on sat we can take a look at it, it's been awhile since i worked on duals, (vw days). About 11:00. I'm woundering about your other post Casey about your exhaust leaking, maybe you have a vacuum leak also, which could cause your high idle. Ron

I would have to agree vacuum leak sounds about rite. After you visit the shop,go buy a vacuum gauge. Great tool for valves ...timing and checking for vac leaks(also a good low pressure fuel gauge). Good Lucks

Thanks Ron, it would be nice to get some help! You say you have time at 11:00am today? I will give a call near that time to see if you are still free.

As for the exhaust leak, it was because the previous owner had really hacked up the intake manifold, I believe so he could make room for headers. I had to replace the intake manifold with a new one.
