I'm looking for a replacement flywheel. It has a GM casting number 3988999N. The engine, I believe is a 1977 Chevy 350 cid. The flywheel is the 168 tooth, 14" diameter, with the 3.58" crankshaft bolt pattern. It's drilled for the 10.4" clutch.
This engine was out of a 1964 Chevy pickup I purchased, so the flywheel may not be out of a 1977 vehicle.
Is there a replacement available? I keep seeing GM parts number 3991469 while searching, but am confused as to whether on not it will work.
It states it's for clutch dia.: 10.4", 11"
Does this mean it's drilled for two different size pressure plates? I believe the bolt circle diameter for the pressure plate is 11-5/8" across.
    Thanks for your help!

Man your having a problem with this flywheel.

Doing a quick search on google with your 3988999N flywheel. I found out that its from a 67-72 small block chevy. Mostly used in early camaro's and nova's. That sounds about right when you said you removed it from a 64 pickup. Some say it's 10.4 and some say 10.5.

    You have 2 options:

    1. keep your bell housing and starter and buy another 3988999N. A 11" clutch / flywheel most likely won't fit in your 10.4" bellhousing. And your starter wont fit the ring gear on the 11" clutch / flywheel.

    2. Ditch the 10.4, bell housing and starter, and look for the 11" setup.

I've never seen a flywheel drilled for 2 different size clutches or pressure plates. I did see many of the 3988999N flywheels on ebay though. A trip to the local chevy dealer maybe in order to help sort some of the confusion as to what year flywheel you need to order.

    Flywheel Manufacture Found

    Dave,
I did a lot of searching on the Internet, and making phone calls to bumper to bumper, Napa, etc. Seems most of these places that are selling the stuff cant answer your questions. Too bad they don't put all the info. required in the advertised specs........ something simple like "What size clutch is this flywheel drilled for!" Or "how many teeth does this flywheel have?".
Anyway, I found a place online called "American Powertrain" that advertizes what I need for a Flywheel..........

Going to look for information on my bell housing and see if it will
accept an 11" pressure plate if I ever want to go to that.
    Thanks for your help!
    Tom
