Hey Guys My 1982 chevy truck has a 16 gal. gas tank what is the largest size I can put in it? Any help you can give would be appreciated. ---Elias82:
Short bed trucks had the 16 gallon tank, while the long bed had the 20. Depending on what model was ordered, some had dual tanks.
Actually, some longbed trucks (like mine) got the 16 gal tank. If yours is a longbed, you can replace it with a 20 gal tank without modifying anything. You can add a second tank on the pass side with some work (cutting a hole for the filler neck, adding switch/lines). You can even put a 25-31g Blazer/Suburban tank in the spare tire location if you're willing to do the work: http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/blazertank.html
Tank relocation Yes get that tank inside the frame rails.I worked a traffic accident that was fatal due to ruptured tank from a 1983 gmc .
Hey guys thanks for the replys. It's been very helpful for me. Right now my truck gets me where I need to go so putting in a bigger gas tank for now is a low priority. I was just curious if there were bigger tanks available because it seems my tank is a little too small.---Elias
