Just wanted to show off my new project, a 1987 gmc stepside. She's not running yet but she will be soon. Not bad for $500 down here in Texas. Like to see your comments
welcome Welcome to the forum. Nice truck ;good price! How come it's not running? Whats going to be your first project? ---Elias82
project step side She sat up for 4 years and has stale gas in the fuel system. Removed the fuel tank yesterday and found out it needs replacing. Ordered a new tank and sending unit along a few other parts from classic trucks today. First thing is to get it running and then sit back and decide what I'm gonna do with her. If you have any suggestions please let me know.
...howdy & welcome to the fire.... #1- check everything!!! {and I mean everything-ground up} #2- this would be a good time to start any body work that is needed #3-if you pull anything off, mark it and if possible take pics. to remember how and where it goes #4- start looking around at your local junk yards for the parts you need #5- {should of been #-1} if your motor is no good, before you invest in a "used ornew one" take your too a well known shop and see if it would be cheaper to rebuild the one you have or get another one. You might get lucky and find it mat not need much. Before you try to start it change oil, plugs, check rotor & cap, check all plug wires also have alt. check and check fuel pump ...if it has been sitting for along time it could have glazed over. Hope all this helps...Good Luck!! oh almost forgot if you are going to use this as an everyday driver, remember the gas price issue.
Helpful info Thanks for all the info, you gave me then what I would have thought of.I changed plugs, oil, filters (fuel and oil) fail to remember the fuel pump. I am waiting for a fews parts from classic parts like a new fuel tank, sending unit cab corners and taillight lens. I have a v6 with a 3 speed manual tranny with column shif. The column is bad, and I am looking for a place that can rebuild it. I wolud like to keep it a 3 speed on the column if possible (trying to keep original).
