I purchased a new bench seat cover for my truck. Has any one done this ,and what did you use over the springs. I thought the original just had like a burlap over it am I correct. I am open for suggestions.
Seat SPRING Cover Burlap or canvas is good , both are sturdy (not old Burlap sacking) and will prevent the overlay padding (cotton is best there) from seperating or shredding as the time goes by .
seat covers I like the canvace idea but what about a foam replacement on top of that. I went to the local foam factory and they didnt have an automotive foam. Has anyone had sucsess with rebuiding the seats.
Comfy Seats Foam is a definate no-no ~ it looks nice , all puffy etc/ but when you put some time on it , it makes little bunches that sort of pinch your skin and make for uncomfortable riding..... I've had many a custom seat made over the years and I always insist on cotton batting , about 1/2" thick as this makes for a firm whilst soft seat that gives good , natural support so you can spend hours and hours at a tme and not get sore bum . Goos luck trying to get a Auto Trimmer to resist using cheap foam . The only good foam is the high density stuff , grey or green in color .
Seat covers As Nate said cotton batting is the best way to go. Usually you can get it from an upholstry shop. Also make sure your coil springs are even. You can even them by placing welding rod accross them. They have to be thick enough to be stiff. OR LMC truck sells a kit #38-2831 for $34.95 and includes 2 steel rods with instructions,24x60 foam sheet,20x60 reinforcement material, hog rings, and hog ring pliers. But you still need cotton batting. The foam is thin and goes over the batting. It fills the cover out. Hope this helps Gene
Bench seat Just finished doing this, used burlap to cover the springs, jute carpet underlay next, and 1" high density foam "the green stuff" over that. I used a cover from brothers that was pleated with a thin foam already. Turned out great, my springs were in good shape to begin with. See pics under my profile
