hey, what's a reasonable price for getting a drive shaft balanced? Mine was shortened after putting in the 700r4 transmission but I don't think they balanced it. I now pick up a slight vibration at 65mph and up. thanks for the help. Bob
Did you index the shaft positioning like it was when you removed it ?? There needs to be an index offset between the front and rear yokes. The trans yoke and the rear end yoke have to be paired up in an opposing fashion? dv
It's been a few years but I think I paid about $150.00 to have it shortened, balanced and new U-joints. Did they take both pieces of the drive shaft and balance them? I sent them both ends when I had it balanced.
driveshaft rebalancing the transmission shop actually sent it out for shortening. I'm not sure what they did. i got a price from Clinards Driveshaft in Nashville to do it the right way if this is the problem. It's not that bad but is noticable. thanks for the input. raking
" The trans yoke and the rear end yoke have to be paired up in an opposing fashion?" Yea, I tried to explain it in this sentence, but not too well.. It's hard to explain without pictures, and I've looked on the Internet for an example to no avail. The best way I can put it is when the U-joint is connected to the trans, the way it connects to the rear should be opposite. dv
I had a Vette at one time, changed the clutch and put back the drive shaft with more problems that i could imagine, well maybe you can. I kept pulling the shaft and stabbing at a different spline to where I could finally live with it. I now know better and mark the location when pulling a drive shaft but on new work or the project that I'm now putting together its nice to know a starting point or at least how it should be. Honestly, I still don't understand that starting point. Bob
