I took a putty knife to create a valley between the glass and the rubber, moved the knife along carefully while squeezing a bead of black RTV in the valley. I had to put quite a bit in the corners cause they "pooched" out some. I think that is what the shop manual said to do too.

Silicone is a bad thing for metal.Acids will cause rusting. I'm going to try some 3m bedding glaze, or try putting some butyl tape behind the rubber.

I must have misunderstood. Where I put the RTV doesn't come in contact with metal. It goes between glass and rubber. Let us know how it goes and where you put it.

You'll need a caulking gun and a brandy new tube of 3M windshield sealer , slash cut the tip to a tiny hole , like 3/16" , make SURE there's not one drop of water in there anywhere and first do the glass to rubber re-seal as Gater said , then do the same thing under the rubber to body lip , don't be shy about shooting in a lot of sealant , when you're finished you can wipe off any excess that mushes out .

Harbor Freight sells a cheap , nifty hard nylon tool that'll lift the rubber and not scratch either glass nor paint...

    I Hope

You got the correct 3M windshield stuff as it stays highly flexible for many years , important in the long run .
