    The quadrajet is what's known as a "spreadbore" carb, meaning it has small primaries and large secondaries. The intake manifold is made with this same spreadbore pattern to match up. The 1406 is not a spreadbore and will not work unless you change the intake manifold.

    Go with a 600 cfm. With the carb you might need to get an adapter to make it work with your manifold or do the upgrade to a performer intake.

    :D....I agree with "drabo" I used this same carb on my 305 ;
    and yes you will need the adaptor unless you change out the intake and if you do change out the intake go with the edlebrock. I think you will like the improvement. :D

    What wrong with your carb? If it just needs a rebuild get a kit. I really do not like other carb like "CARTER" (Edelbrock carb) I would get a Holley If your going to change the carb different brand. As said the factory carb and Intake are spreadbore . Edelbrock makes Great Intakes manifolds it would be set up for both set up's of 600 would be best or 650 if you can get a 600.
