Patrick`s explained to me that it should be very easy to install the tranny,a bolt in solution without any hecking or cutting needed? the 50 truck has an open rear end, allready changed out the oakie bushing and U joint+ pignion+crownwheel 355:1.

Parts ? I have bought a lot of parts, some new/used from the NCCN (Norwegian Chevy club of Norway) and the rest swapping and from the USA,EBAY you name it.
When the Saginaw 4 speed comes in august i am going to have a look inside and will considder to change out some synchro rings if needed?

What does the Patrick`s kit contains ?

    Martinius.

I'm confused, if you already have an open rearend you will not need patricks Saginaw conversion. His kit is only if you retain the Torque tube closed shaft rearend. Then just buy Patricks 4 speed shifter kit, bolt in your Saginaw, and have your driveshaft shortened to accomodate the longer Saginaw. You have the best of everything!

    Thanks for the answer Flashlight.

Do you maybe have a picture from the working procedure with shortning the drive shaft? How much shorter did you make the shaft?

What i ment is indeed the 4 speed shifter transmission kit.
The Patricks booklet pictures dont show really good, what does the kit contains?

I kept the closed torque tube rearend and only replaced the gears in the rearend. Patricks Saginaw adapter kit shortens the whole Saginaw transmission to use the old rearend. So I did not need to shorten the driveshaft on my 47'.

Shortening the driveshaft is not too difficult, but there are some tricks to doing it right. I think there are many welding shops that will do this for you for not too much money.
But basically they measure the new length needed, cut out the excess on the tube and re-weld. The tricks come in keeping everything balanced and round so you won't have vibration or excess wear.

Patricks shifter kit is a Hurst Competition plus with his special truck lever design so it looks original. Go to the Hurst online catalog to see a picture of the Competition plus shifter kit if you like.

The truck have the close torque tube. Patricks is making a new production of "the Saginaw Conversion Kit" nowerdays. Patrick senior told me i should look over the syncros/bearings and gears before installing the Saginaw 4 speed. The conversion requires that i use the 3 speed front U-joint yoke. The costs are $499.95. The Saginaw have the Hurst shifter but i dont know yet if it works properly.

Your German needs a fine polishing but thank you anyhow.

Ha det godt og ha en fin dag, ønskes fra Martinius.

In ordnung! Don't worry about the old shifter you have, a very nice new one comes with the kit, as well as a custom shaped shift lever that looks great in your cab. You got good advice from Pat, you wouldn't want to find you had a few worn areas that are easily taken care of before the tranny swap and then you might have to take it out again. My german gets better after zwei hefe-weitzen bier! Its been 20 years since I was in Deutschland, many a fraulein was charmed with my Tennessee-German accent, which is why we have such good international relations to this day!...Yahwohl
