After squirreling away parts for 60 years my wife said I had to clean the building she parks her car in or get her a smaller car. I now have two 16 ft utility trailers piled chest high with parts and have just cleaned down ONE wall in the FIRST building. In the depths were such AD things as fresh air heaters, round core heaters, Fulton visors, factory hood ornaments, traffic light viewer, a couple radios, a set of suburban fender trim strips, a grill guard, and a super rare factory compass. Unique non-AD stuff is a 409 four weber intake, a 69 Z28 302 DZ engine with exactly 894 miles on it and a Rajay turbo set up for a 22R Toyota with intercooler and waste gate that is adjustable fron inside the cab. Being a speed addict I was always sure there was just the right intake/cam/exhaust out there that would give me just a whisker more power. We sandblasted the sbc intakes (I loved small block 400's) taken from part of the first building. The worst part, which I'm sure confirms some kind of disease, is that I don't want to get rid of any of it.
Evan, sounds like you've got a problem. I'm here to help! I'm very interested in the grill guard. Shoot a couple of pics and post them. Sure would look good on the front of my truck!
Ken: Maybe Evan will give you a package deal on the grill guard and the 302. Both would be great in your 50.
Some suggestions Wow Evan! - I can imagine what you are going through. I have that same "squirelly" disease. I am sure some of the folks here will be glad to help you with some of the AD parts. Personally, i'd like to see what you have in the hood ornament dept. as mine needs rechromed or replaced. Anyway, I have a suggestion for you. Since you said you had been at this for 60 years, I thought if you had a grandkid or two, they might want to help you. It would be a great way to spend time with them and help pass down some of the awesome knowledge you have acquired and share with us frequently. Also, it could teach them some business skills that they can use later in life. They might even be able to work it into obtaining some form of school credit with proper record keeping. You could do this by inventorying, cataloging, and listing these items on ebay in your own ebay store. you could make a deal with the kids that for their help in taking the pics, posting the items while you help dictate the description, tracking sales, and helping with the shipping, then half of the proceeds goes into a college fund or something for them. Kids these days are whizes with computers and cameras. If I lived closer, I'd help you just for a chance to learn, and maybe a cold beverage now and then. Best of luck to you. if it took that long to accumulate, it won't go away over night. Now, I need to get to work on my piles - I always feel so much better when I can see progress.
Gypsy truck, I wished you lived closer also because organizing and cataloging are definitely not my strong points. If they were I wouldn't have the jumble that exists now. Right now I don't want to sell but I will soon be 73 and the situation could change. We never had any kids so I've instructed my wife, who comes from a family of great longevity, to first offer parts to the customers we have built trucks for over the years and secondly to the members of this forum which is my favorite of the many that I visit.
Thank you ! Evan , for all the help you've given us (me) over the years . I too wish I was closer or maybe had some $ to spend in your stash....
I've got the early symtoms!! First I get delusions about the complete breakdown of the system, no parts, no fuel and how I'll have the only spare parts and thus the only 47' AD on the road. I get shaky, then lose judgement and buy the parts. There is temporary relief. Then I have to justify the part and go into denial. I figure I'll make a profit on the part....someday! Now, I have the attic of the barn full, a 1955 235ci with OD tranny is under the steps...hey it will fit in my 47' or 53'. Again...some temporary relief, I had a part stashed away that I needed for the 53'. I'm afraid Evan I'm not far from the terminal stage either! Flashlight
