rear axle codes

    Can any one tell me where to look for the rear axle codes on my 1960/1961 c-10 1/2 ton truck.

    I'm trying to figure out the gear ratio. The axle is stock far as i know. and i need to figure out the casting number/ axle code. i would appreciate the help from ya'll. Cowboy

    I was able to find mine on the build sheet behind the seat. Pull your cushion forward and look for a piece of paper between the springs. If it's there write down as much info as possible because it you even try to move it, it will fall to pieces. Mine came out in about 30 pieces! Also I believe the trim tag on the driver side kick panel has a spot for an axle code, some got stamped, some didn't. Here are the axle codes for 60 & 61:

    My bet is that you have a 3.90:1 rear end. It looks like the 3.38 option was pretty rare. Hope this helps!

    Thanks Chevorletc10 for the help. the trim tag didn't have the code stamped on it, and the seat well i didn't fond any paper on it.

    Was there a spot on the axle where it could be or do i need to take the ring and pinion out and to a count of the teeth?i think that the frame is a 60 and the cab is 61.

    x 4 4 _ 1. thats one of the numbers i found on my axle there is another one but i haven't made it out yet. Cowboy

    where did you find those numbers? I'm trying to find my front axle code too.

    i found the numbers on the driveshaft side of the pumpkin. the #'s were on the top side. that was the only place i found #'s so far for the axle code. Cowboy
