OK~ so I'm not ready to do this, but I thought I'd ask you fine fellers what you thought anyway.
Once upon a time, I had my speaker grill all polished up. It looked as good as the stainless glove box. Well, years have passed, and now the speaker grill is rusted. What I'd like to do is clean it up and paint it white, as well as the glove box door. I'm just not sure if stainless will take paint like everything else will. Can I rough it up with a 3M wheel and hit it with etching primer and expect good results?
Better yet, does anyone know if they make a stainless speaker grill?
    Thanks for any ideas!

Would this be what you would be looking for???

What I ended up doing to mine was to sand it smooth and get a can of that chrome spray paint. Turned out pretty good I think. I didn't want to get a new cover due to the fact that it would make the rest of my dash look bad.

I also got those black stickers that spell out the mighty General Motors Truck on there too!!!

Best of luck. How is your garage coming along>???? and also your truck?

Rustoleum used to make a primer for smooth non porous surfaces. It seemed to never dry to hardness but the topcoat you put over it would dry fine. My old shop had glass covering the whole front of the building and the Texas sun was a killer so I painted most of the windows to cut down on the heat. Most of the paint would start flaking and peeling within two years but after priming with the smooth surface Rustoleum it lasted a number of years.

    Thanks all!

I appreciate the input to my dilemma!
So I guess I'll rough it up, prime it and paint it, and hope for the best.
Thanks Brian for the page at LMC~ Unfortunately, that wasn't stainless...
Good news, one of my brothers now works at LMC!;)
BTW~ TOOOOO many tornado sirens tonight! SHEEZE!!!!!
My garage is coming along! I'm making my own siding that (I think) kicks! I'll post pictures when it quits raining...

Zig, the grill I removed on my truck was painted, and seemed to hold up very well. I see no reason why if you rough it up the paint would not stick to it, especially if you use an etching primer. Good luck....Mike

Paul, you guys were hit all day with storms. We had a bunch come through for a several of hours, just one after the other. I saw on the weather map that you guys were really getting hit yesterday. Hope there was no damage, and everything is fine!!! Can't wait to see your garage and truck! I wasn't sure if those from LMC were stainless or not. You know that LMC is bout 15 min from my house!!! Makes it too easy sometimes, not that that is a bad thing;)

My truck should be done in the next couple of weeks. Having the new "used" door put on as well as the cowl patch panel, and new door and window seals.

Right now its actually nice having it out of the garage. Now I have more room for all my tools to work on building a deck on the back of our house. I am about 75% completed with that. I will post some pics of that soon!! Hope to finish it this weekend!

    Boy HOWDY!

My brother, Mark Hanney works at LMC. (He keeps the stuff on the shelves.) If you get over that way, ask for him. He's a hoot!:D

3~ Yes 3 times we had the sirens go off! Thankfully nothing here but hail. (None tough enough to dent my G!)
I'm trying to paint and install my "custom" siding, but between my daughter and the afternoon rains, it may take a while! I'd SOOOO love to tell my daughter to "use her imagination" and play by herself, but then I look at that gift from God and it's all over with!;)

If I lived near by, you know I'd help you get that deck done. The forth is coming, and they are a handy commodity! Post those pictures! I promise to post some of "My home for AD" in a few days! I think it makes a fair departure from "the normal"... Is anyone surprised by that?:D
