They never installed a three speed automatic in the 1960-66 trucks. You will have to modify your existing linkage to work. You can use it now but you just won't have low gear manually.

In regard to the message the other fella left saying "they didn't put 3 speed auto's in any '60 - '66 p'ups." That's not exactly accurate. I have a '66 with a factory Turbo 400 in it. First generation. I also understand it was the first year that it was an option. The shift indicator on my column reads: D L2 L1. My truck is a 3/4 ton Custom Camper. Maybe you could find a '66 auto in a junk yard somewhere? I could keep my eyes peeled for you as well.

    hilandr451,

I'm a bit curious about your shift indicator bezel. I knew they put the TH-400 in the 66's but I've never seen one! Is the bezel still chrome like the one for the powerglide? Did they just make the lettering smaller on the plastic piece or did they make the bezel bigger? Thanks for your help; I plan to put a 700r-4 in my 65 and I'm trying to figure out how I can fabricate an indicator to show all four gears. If the TH-400 indicator is bigger, I'm one step closer to knowing what I can do! Thanks & Merry Christmas!

The factory books don't show a TH400 being put in a truck. But the Chevy Truck ID book does in fact show one for the 1966 only. That is kinda odd but good for people that would like to upgrade to the TH400 and need the linkage.

The shift indicator bezel is indeed chrome, it doesn't apear to be bigger, (although I really don't have anything to compare it to) it has a plastic lens in it that you can see through, the pointer sits behind it, and there is a small lamp inside the steering column under the RH corner of the lens so the letters & pointer light up with the dash lights. (and that lamp is a real ##### to replace trust me)
Send me an e-mail & I'll send you some digital pictures that I just took of it tonight so you can see what I'm talking about.
