Got our truck back from the beauty shop/restorer suspecting the gas gauge did not work. It read correct with a dip stick but after a week it was still on the same 3/4 full mark. We filled it with lawnmower gas and lead substitute full. Today is set in parking lot, heated up and ran over. This stuff workes as well as any paint stripper made. Has anyone else had this experience? I have never seen gasoline strip paint before and this is base coat/clear coat. 1quart is $150 making this at least a $500 repair
It's NOT ' Lead Substitute ' ! It's methanol crap and is very BAD stuff indeed but they make BIG $$ off it so don't think it'll go away soon . I've had this problem too , once time it was my recently painted Kawasaki Police Moto in Arizona's 125° sunshine , when I arrived back home a month later I was pleased to discover the Urethane paint rubbed right out pure white again , just like the L.A.P.D. painter told me it would . I expect Evan will be along shortly to explain how to fix this correctly . No one here worries about lead substitues for the engine , right ? .
I dont think I will use this anymore. This was most of the cab corner under the gas cap. The truck will probably log 2,000-mi per year. I don't know if it has hardened seats & valves, this paint repair will go a long way on a new valve job. The engine is running 60-psi on oil pressure so the head may be fixed for no lead gas. 60-psi just dont seem right.
What Engine ? As all those wonderful Cast iron Wonder InLine 6 bangers were made to run on unleaded so you don't need any additives ! . On the odd chance your engine is ' shooting ducks ' (making soft popping sounds out the exhaust @ idle occasionally) , simply add a couple ounces of ATF to each full tank of gas , or if you're rich , buy some Marvel Mystery Oil and add 3oz per tankful ~ it's good stuff and I use it in my old tech Diesels .
Only pops on purpose when decelerating. If we drove much at night I would try some flame throwers like Ole Chevy. Probably dont need to attract the Police.
you know 60 psi is pretty much standard... oh wait not everyone has that superior long long long looooonnnnnggg motor and that beautiful GMC mug.. sorry to hear bout your paint.. that would actually be a blessing for my truck less sanding
