    Hi All,
I wonder if any one can help ??
    I have a 57 3100, 235 engine with 3 speed column change.
It keeps jumping out of third,
ive put new rubbers on gear arms,
ive balanced the propshaft, new gearbox mounts
the gear lever seems to rise on accelerating, then bang its in neutral
    its driving me nuts.
im trying to find another gearbox now !!! is that a wise move??
be good to hear from someone.
    Many Thanks
    Clive

Sounds more like a Trans or Moter mount Problem ,or Cracked or loose crossmember , to Me . I Beleive I,d Check those first & Posablly try to adjust the linkage before I,d replace the gear box . Just My Opinion though. :D . Best of luck . Bob

I had the same problem. I had a friend tell me the shift forks were wore out and he would fix it for free If I would buy the parts. I took the whole transmission out and took to him. I went over to see if it was finished and he managed to get in JAIL. The transmission had the plate off the shifter side. I needed my car so I looked and could see the worn parts and went and bought both for cheap ay the chevy dealer. This was on a 62 in 1970. I put them in and replaced my transmission. Problem fixed CHEAP. I was so green I didn't know the drive shaft came aloose at the rear and knocked the U-Joints out at the yoke of the tranmission. Trick is there was no need to remove the tranny. Remove the linkage and pull the plate off. I bet you see wear and I bet the chevy dealer wont have it in stock. They may not even order it for you. I think the shafts that the linkage hooks to will be the problem. Its benn abont 40-yrs ago. Buy I coud doit and you can to
