Hi, gang. I have a 55 1st series 3100, and I am looking for parking brake cables. The cables for the 54 are not correct, and my guess is that when Chevy changed to the open driveline in 55 they used the same rear axle on both the 1st and 2nd series, ergo I can order the cables for the 2nd series and I would be in business. Can anybody verify this for me? Thanks Bruce Jr.

Bruce, you need to flag this for Ken's 50. He will most likely be able to come up with the part #'s.

The 47-55-1 have parking brake cables that bolt to the backing plate. The second series fits in a hole in the backing plate. The 55-59 has a different layout for the parking brake, and wont interchage with the AD's. CP carries these cables part # 71-711. Chris

That hold for the 54 that the cable clamps to the backing plate, but they changed to the open driveline in 55 with the first series, and the e-brake cable opening is a hole about 1/2 to 5/8 in in diameter. I believe that they used the same diff and backing plate starting with the 1st series, so the cable should be the same for both the first and scond series.

I have the cables for the 54 and they will not fit the 55. I had hoped this would be the case, but fortunately I have two 54's so the won't be wasted.

I have two rear ends out of a 1st series, and they both have the bolt on cables. I think someone swicthed out your rear for a later one. You sould be able to change out the backing plates to the earlier style(bendix) and you will be back in business. Chris
