    Hey gang,

I am mixed up on one aspect of the 12 volt conversion for my 52 chevy truck.

Do i have to replace my starter switch with one that has a side terminal? Some of the directions I have seen make no mention of this. the Classic Parts wiring guidelines mention it, saying I need to add a separate, 18 gauge wire from starter switch to coil. Is that right?

And if I get the new coil with the internal resistor, I don't need to add the ignition resistor that others have mentioned?

    Thanks!

    Eric

If you are doing away with the foot starter, yes, you need a new switch with "Start" ability. Otherwise, you could run a push button for a starter switch like the Viper.

The coil is IC64 from NAPA, it has the internal resistor. This way you cn do away with the ceramic resistor e eryone seems to run.

    KEEP The Pedal Starter !

As it makes your truck somewhat theft proof and is correct ya know !

It'll handle 12 volts just fine and you won't need the side terminal either .

If you ever run breakerless electronic ignition , you can't use the by-pass circuit anyways .

I hope we've answered your question ?

Yes, the foot starter works fine with the 6v starter on 12v. Just don't crank for too long without letting it cool down a little. It does make it somewhat theft proof, cause no one knows what it is for.
