Hey all! I have owned this truck for a few years and decided to start working on it. It is a 1954 3 window with 3 on the tree. starts runs and drives. no brakes though :(
I was wondering about what type engine it has and found the serial located near the dipstick on the block. It is, or at least I think it is, 0I56577f54x.
can anyone out there help me ID it? I have looked but have had no success, maybe it has been swapped? I dunno, but what got me looking is the fuel pump doesn't look like any of that year. It has no glass bowl, it is just copper with one in and 1 out. which the parts store on here says is for a 1966?
help me ID this thing please.

    Thanks! Mobi

    Welcome Mobi!

The engine serial number is correct for a '54. Check again and you'll find that the second letter "I" is probably a "1". What matters is "f54x" which means that it is an engine from a '54 1/2 ton truck. As far as the fuel pump, it probably has a later model fuel pump installed after the original went south. FYI, it would be a 235 CI 6 banger!

Post some pics when you get time.

Hey Mr. Green, long time, no post! The engine serial # on a '54 start with a sequence # then an "f" if built in Flint or a "t" if built in Tonawanda. The "54" designates the year and the "x" designates that it is a series 3100.

Here's a link that shows the possibilities. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/54057.htm

    Thanks Ken.
Is there any way to tell if the engine was the original motor installed in the truck at the time of production?
