We (my wife and I) are building a '59 big back window, fleetside, short wheelbase, deluxe cab. It originally had a 4 speed. We both like manual transmissions. I thought about a modern 5 speed, but thought the hydraulic clutch would be a problem, and I think a t-5 behind a small block and the weight of a pickup might give us problems. The tranny that's in it is un-repairable. What year did transmissions change? I have another one from the early '80s but it won't fit in my bell housing. I notice that CD list gasket sets for 47-67 and then 68-74 and then 75-84 (I think). Will a transmission from 68-74 or so fit my bell housing? If I go with a later model transmission and bell housing, how much is this going to throw off my clutch linkage? Does anyone out there have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for the input.
