    Hello,
    More questions:
    How do you call in English the wire/cable that goes from the engine to the instrument by the speedometer that gives me information about the temperature of the engine.
    Where do I get this? This wire is at my truck broken. Is it possible to get such a wire used in good condition or new?

    Temperature sending unit

    Hey Wolfgang, what you are describing is the temperature sending unit that goes from the temperature gauge thru the firewall into the engine block. The original ones were basically a gas filled capillary tube.

    I know that Jim Carter sells them, but they are spendy.

    Hope that helps.

    You will have to replace the whole temp guage. Truck shop has them for the cheapest I have seen. Be very careful when routing the tube that you dont kink or break it.

    Sorry Booger, I just think it is so great that we have an International forum here. I learned to speak german while I was stationed there from 88-91'. I got to speak fairly well conversationally but have forgotten so much. I jump at the chance to practice a little "deutsch" with Volker, Wolfgang and Martenius. I have trouble finding parts here in Tennessee, so I can imagine what finding a non-repro part is like for them. Maybe we can all go visit and have a few Hefe-Weitzen biers!! I may have missed a Gasthof tavern or two but I can't remember!

    Wolfgang, You said that you had a 235 motor. The temp gauge will be electronic and not the copper vacuum tube. The electronic gauge is easier to replace. You can order these in whichever gauge face cover decal you want...GMC or Chevy, yellow or gray! GMC had an electronic gauge much earlier then the Chevy's. You may be able to get the original 235 sending unit that mounts on the motor. Nearly impossible to find the electronic sending unit for the 216 that GMC used.

    Temp unit

    Hallo Flashlight,
    wie du siehst, hat mein Motor eine gas filled capillary tube.
    [IMG]
    If you like I try to say it in English.
    Is it possible to change from the orignial one gas filled capillary tube to a electic temp unit. What I have to change? Could I use the entry to the engine block? Or if not where have I to connect the electric unit?

    Nice Truck !

    Wolf ;

    Thanx for the link to your web page , you're doing a good job .

    Please be aware the engine in trucks was painted grey , not blue ~ blue was for passenger cars only . the Rocker Box on your 235 engine is from a passenger car also , that's what the oil cap is in the middle rather than the front where it's easier to reach in a truck .

    Your truck never had an electric temperature gauge .

    You can mail the old one off to be rebuilt or just buy a new or used one from The Truck Shop , they have lots of parts for your truck .

    I hope this helps .

    Address or www. address of the Truck shop?

    Hello vwnate1,
    you said that the engine was original grey? Then put one of the owners ago a wrong engine block into the truck, then the engine had fracments that were painted in this colour.
    Okay, the engine is painted blue and I wouldn't like to paint it grey. Its too late :-(.
    But you see on the photo near by at the end of the arm of the carburetor. There miss I a part that is connected to the gas pedal. Because I had a personal car engine in my truck I can't find a picture of this part. may be it must be a seesaw or something else?

    Wolfgang, I don't want you to be confused especially with some translation difficulty. Nate, is a "meister repareteur" and you should will always consider his advice perfect. I see in your photo's the "blue flame" 235. This is not an original motor, it is from the 55-62 cars and trucks. It has at least 50% more H/P and is a high oil pressure motor. It is a very good swap the previous owner did for you. The motor fits into your truck perfectly. You have a brass electronic temp sending unit on your motor (left rear block), which was normal for the 235. I see your posted picture and I think you are missing the "Bell Crank" . Look in your parts pile and find it, it goes between the pedal and the rod you have to the carb. The phone number to Patrick's is good and call for a catalog. He specializes in the swap between the original 216 and the later 235 motor. The sponsor also has many parts for the 235 motor. I hope we can have a dialog on-line because I have also a 235 with electronic sender that I want to hook up to a stock instrument gauge.

    235 Upgrade

    Wolf ;

    I painted my 49's 235 grey (it was blue when I bought it) when the truck was completely assembled ~ it's easy to do now , just use tape and paper from the meat market to mask off what you don't want grey...

    The " seesaw " is called " Bellcrank " in English , some were cast iron , others were stamped sheet metal .

    You'll also need the " Throttle Rod " from this bell crank to the gas pedal for a truck as it's different for trucks than passenger cars .

    Raised Casting Numbers

    This is from the plant where the engine block was made , it means converyor line # 3 and the other breaks out to 1954 date I *think* , I'm not sharp on casting #'s .

    On the right side of the engine behind the distributor is a flat machined pad with some numbers _stamped_ into it , this is the engine's serial number and will decode into what it is but your other pictures show a ' late model ' full pressure oiling 235 as built from the 1955 ~ 1962 model years .
