Has anyone used a disc brake conversion kit for a 62 chevy? I am wanting to upgrade the stopping power of my 1/2 ton, but dont necessarily want to revise the whole system to power brakes if I dont have to. Is it necessary to install brake booster / compensating valves etc, or can one run disc brake set up from standard dual cylinder master cyl. that is standard for this truck? If you have any info / experience I would like to benefit from it. KY Chevy
I have a 64 1/2 ton, which now has power disc brakes on the front. But when I was evaluating the different suppliers I found Early Classics didn't necessarily recommend adding a power booster. They said there was plenty of stopping power without boost. You will require a proportioning valve to adequately balance the front and back brakes. Otherwise you can have wheel lockup or uneven pad wear. Check out my disc brake setup. http://www.geocities.com/richmond2_99/64PU.html
