Hello guys, I have another question to the bed restoring. As you see on the two photos I placed the first sill on the frame. Is this as you can see okay so or must I place a rubber part between the sill and the frame. I ask this because there is a rivet under the sill and I think that can not be okay so. And one more question can someone tell the size between the sills? For remind I have a Chevy 3600. Thanks for your help Wolfgang
Wood Block Wolfgang - I'm not sure about your 3800, but the 3100 has about a 2" wood block between the frame and the rail. Please see the photo.
Theyshould have a wooden spacer block, the 53 needs a 1 1/2 spacer to get the bed to line up with the splash aprons.
I think this is the part you need. http://www.classicparts.com/1947-53-Bed-Mounting-Blocks-Pads-Longbed/productinfo/13-512/ Greg
Wood Bed Blocks Wolfgang ~ look at the photo of the wooden blocks and notice the bolt hole aligns with the grain of the wood ~ you can make your own blocks but this detail is VERY important ! failure to align the bolt hole with the wood grain will result in the block splitting in 1/2 very soon . If you look in older posts about bed blocks , you'll see how the fellows helped me out of this problem . '
Interval between the sills Hello, a second question to bed restoring. How large must the space between the sills at a 3/4 ton truck? Has Chevrolet given a technical drawing? Ask Wolfgang
They are the same size as the 1/2 ton. I find that the blocks usually need to trimed to make the fenders line up properly. Assemble the bed and fenders and then line them up with the running bosds and splash aprons, cutting the blocks to fit.
