It meant putting off working on my truck, but now I have a home for AD. This is what happens when a wood butcher marries an architect. I end up building all kinds of weird stuff! This was fun, however! I made the siding out of 1/4" water resistant wood panels. I still have a window to trim and a wavy piece to make and install, glass to put in and vents to make, wire to run and plumbing to install, shelves to build and a floor and driveway to pour, but other than that, I'M DONE!!!! The floor will be even with the bottom of the door. The door turned out every bit as good as I imagined. ~smooth~ I used sash weights (30 pounds each side) to counterbalance the door. No, it's not an auto open. It's a throwback to the good old days (like our trucks) where you had to get out to open and close the garage door. When I have more "think" time, I may see how I could create an opener, but in the mean time, I'm happy! My back's better, it's a three day weekend, YEEEHAAA! I just had to share with y'all. Have a great Labor Day weekend! Paul P.S. Brian, guess you'll just have to help me eat some grilled food and BS about trucks!
Looking good bro! Nothing short of awesome, Zig! Now get off of your lazy butt and get that truck finished!
Really nice with high lighted details, not ho-hum. We had a cabin in the Kiamichi Mountains in southeastern Oklahoma that had high windows like yours and was concerned about heat loss but with ceiling fans pushing the heat back down it was not a problem. I bet you feel like one does when you get all the plumbing and wires hooked up on a long truck project---just got to try it out.
Thanks, guys~ You bet, Evan... I can't wait to get out there and turn up the tunes! Thanks, all! (Gene, Bob, Bob, Mike and Big Brother!) Nate, I would be honored! (I just need to win the lotto to be able to spend the time and buy the ticket!) (It would be the best thing I've bought in a _long_ time though!) I look forward to when there is light out there and I can put your knowledge about these old trucks to use. I just couldn't have it setting out under the stars like it was. Tomorrow I'll start organizing and planning how I want things, but not until I've taken my dad FISHING! It's been a great day~ I hope your days been the same! Just got through watching "The Soloist". Wow~ What a movie! Nate, that's right in your home town, huh?
You're A GOOD Son ! With your priorities in such good order , I hope you guys have a GREAT day fishing ! . Yes , it was filmed near me , I drive past most those streets every day . I used to work down in Skid Row, a grim place indeed .
Well , Zig ; If ever I hit The Lotto , I'll fly you out as I have yet to find a competent carpenter in So. Cal. ~ they're all about short cutting the job because every one knows you'll be rebuilding in a couple years anyway... RIGHT ? . My neighbor just got skinned for $25,000.00 on a new garage that looks cheesy anyway , he say sit's poorly built to boot .
Thanks again! Nate, as my dad taught me~ If you're going to do something, do it the best you can. I am about played out on woodworking projects and MORE than ready to get back to my truck. Problem is, teaching really is a 7 day a week career when school's on, but I'm also finishing my masters degree which means more time from somewhere to do all I need to to pass those classes. But come the end of next May, I won't have diddly to do EXCEPT work on my truck! Well, I guess I'll still need to wire my shop, put up wall board, build the shelves... My dad and I had a GREAT time fishing! Caught LOTS of catfish from the campus lake! Gerald~ My rattle can booth will be built, never you fear!
Wow Paul you have been busy. Thanks for sharing the pictures it looks great. I would love to come down soon and check things out especially if i could drive my G!!! It's been running great now and I have to get new tires, new water pump fix a small fuel leak, and get it inspected and tagged. Way to go, cant wait to see it in person. You have so much talent with wood working and basically anything. Looks great
Nice Job Paul - I've built plenty of garages and that is one of a kind. Way to go. I really like the waves. I was going to suggest you include a skylight - but you more than have natural light covered. I ran out of money to insulate and drywall my garage for now, but it sure feels good to have a dry home for the AD, doesn't it? Here are some photos from a Labor Day community gathering I thought you guys might enjoy:
Thanks, Larry! That kid on the tractor doesn't stand a chance, does he?! Looks like good times! The siding shows I've gotten to the point where I can't do anything "normal". Brian, you make it down here in your G and this site will be LOADED with pictures! That would be great, and you and your wife will be stuffed with good grillins!!! Hey, if it's a Sunday when the Chiefs are playing...
