I searched for a past post, but didn't find it. On my 50 1/2 ton, I am doing some door work. I am curious as to which way the door control lever is supposed to mount. This is the arm that opens the door. On the door, there is a groove, which appears to be where the arm fits, however, on mine, the arm is at an angle. I have tried switching sides, turning upside down, etc. The only way it seems to work, looks like it is mounted upside down. The strange thing is that it looks to have been like that for many years. Any thoughts. I can post a picture if needed. I wouldn't care which way it went, except it seems to stick out and bulges the door panel out. Thanks.....Mike

Wierd , isn't it ? I was fiddling with mine in my '49 way back when I bought it too ~ it doesn't seem right that one door handle works in one direction whilst 'tother works in the reverse direction but that's how it is . look in your shop manual for clear pictures of how it goes , you've prolly got it right now .

Yes, they are angled. Seems like they would go into the groove that they fit so well in...........

Here's a photo of my unmolested operator taken a couple years back when I first picked up my truck. I think it shows what you're looking for. For the first dozen times I tried to get out of the truck I almost broke the handle off, because it does operate backwards (to my way of thinking anyway ;) )

Where did you find the steering wheel cover? Can not find one for a 16 to 18 inch wheel cover anymore all seem to fit the new euro/asian size.

    I didn't realize how rare

Charles - That vinyl wrap was installed by the DPO prior to 1980 and was one of the first things I threw away

While Larry's door does look obvious that it should go that way, All of them that I have been in are angled so that they pull back to open the door.

    door lever

Wow, shocked to see this post pop up years later. The funny thing is, I was playing around with the lever just the other day. I'm getting ready to finish up the door parts, and was still scratching my head on how that stupid thing works, and mounts. It just seems like it needs to be angled.......Mike
