    Hello all,

I have a friend who has just purchased a nice set of original gauges for his 65 Chevrolet pickup to replace the "idiot light" style that came standard with the pickup. The gauge set that he purchased is the needle gauge style and also has a tachometer on it, which is original also. He has a wiring harness for it, but he is needing to know what all he is going to have to change out in order to install the gauge set. I am assuming that the temperature and oil pressure sender units will have to replaced with the correct ones for the needle style gauges instead of the "idiot lights" which he currently has. What I was unclear about is will he have to change out his fuse block or any other electrical components in order to install this set. Does anyone out there have any ideas or have done this before? Any help would be much appreciated. he does not have a PC and access to the internet, so I am the messenger and deliverer of the information to him.

Thanks again to you all and hope to hear from you soon.

    Mark,

You didn't say if one of the idiot lights was an alt/gen light. If so, some extra wiring will have to be done to accomodate a replacement ammeter since the electrical connections are not the same. Other than that, and replacing the sending units for the oil pressure and water temperature gauges, I know of no other changes that would have to be made.

Thanks for letting me know on this. I really appreciate it. yes, the idiot light cluster that is currently in the pickup is the oil pressure and generator lights, although it does not have a generator on it. It has an alternator. Both the truck it was taken out of and his truck are both 283 V-8 models and are both stock original to the pickups. The gentleman who he got the gauge set from does not have the pickup any longer, he parted it out and this was one of the things he took off of it before scrapping it.

Thanks again and keep the advise coming.

If you would be soo kind as to supply me with the wiring sch. for the pickup, I would greatly appreciate it. Just send me a message privately to mabailey@multipro.com and I will get you a fax number that you can send them to if you have the access to one. This would help out tremendously. Thanks again for the offer and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
