Hello one questions again. What is the sheet metal for? It was sitting on the manifold near by the first cylinder. Ask Wolfgang
Choke Stove Remmeber when I said your 235 was from a passenger car ? this is the device that provides hot air for the automatic choke on auto tranny passenger cars..... You can prolly sell it to anyone with an old Chevy car with auto tranny . Or maybe trade it and your passenger car rockerbox for the correct truck one with the oil cap in the front .
I believe it is the remains of a "choke stove". Used with an automatic choke carburetor. An aluminum tube coverred in a heat resistant cloth would go from the "stove", which sits on the manifold, to the carburetor. It would bring heated air to the carby to open up the choke butterfly once the engine heated up. Did your engine have an automatic choke on it when you got it? If not, then a previous owner probably did. If you are using a manual choke carby, then you can throw it away. If you are using an automatic choke carby, there are universal "choke stoves" that can be bought and used to replace it. I have one on my truck mounted on the manifold towards the rear of the engine. I use a Carter YF carby with auto choke. I don't know about Rochester auto choke carbs, but maybe the port for the choke stove tube is near the front on those which would explain the location on your engine. Andy
Just Remember Wolf : Do NOT toss it out ! . no part is junk untill it cannot ever be used again by anyone , any way .
