my factory assembly manual shows a brake link between the return spring and the brake pedal assembly.. 1953 3100..

basically it is a bent small rod to extend the spring.. my truck had bailing wire in it's place when i took it apart.

does anyone have a dimensional drawing of this piece? so i can make one?
lot sure how long to make it. and dont see them for sale aftermarket.

I used a piece of welding rod about the same thickness...6-8 inches long:eek:. Works just fine also. I am always amazed at how simple these trucks are and with a little duct tape, baling wire or other scrap a man with a little desire and imagination could keep'em running on the farm!...and they still are 60 some years later:D!

What did you decide about your steering box lube, by the way?

still up in the air about the steering box lube.. I have gear oil in it now.. it is dripping out.. LOL

even though some are recommending grease.. i am hesitant.. cause once i put grease in i think there is no turning back.. LOL

so I think i will go look for something thicker.. than gear oil.. but thinner than grease.. dont know what that will be however..

Check out a Model A or early V8 Ford supplier. They had either 400 or 600 weight gear lube from the factory. It is a very heavy oil, not a grease.

You know that seal was not that hard to replace, Bill Hanlon had the stock # for it. It was basically just remove that tight old Pittman arm bolt, tease off the Pittman arm and there was the seal. You don't have to get into the steering box innards at all. The seal cost $7.00 and it was less then 2 hours to do it.

Haven't leaked yet and its about a month or so.

    Pedal Return Spring Tension

You know it's correct when the pedal returns to the Toe Board with a thump this is actually very important .

Pennrite makes a very good steering box lubricant , it is hard to find though .

Grease will kill your box no matter what some trolls tell you .
