    Bob,

As I recall there is a bracket on the hood which aligns with the latch assembly itself. There is a pin or bolt through them, the spring is set between the two sides of the brackets and slipped over the bolt. The spring can only go on one of two ways. See which gives the best tension for you. On both my 47' and 53' the spring is very weak and doesn't pull the latch back in all the way which has resulted in a tear on the Hood Latch panel. I have not seen anywhere to buy the spring and as i said mine are both very tired. I try to remember each time I open the hood to push the latch back into proper position.

Great!, I just fit it in a spare hood latch mechanism I had, now it makes sense, it fits in and works well. When I install it on the truck I am going to use a bigger and longer cleavis pin to compensate for excessive wear. Jim Carter sells the FPH108 spring for 9.95 + shipping and handling. Thanks for following up, I appreciate it.
