Well we did it & we just got back. That swapmeet was amazing to say the least. The wife and I did the whole swapmeet in one day, at a good pace, 11 HRS. That wasn't looking at any die cast toys or nothing. Beautiful scenery on top of that. Some of the parts and vendors seem to have west coast prices, a little high. I scored a couple of good deals, like a $2.00 stainless steel glove box door, excellent condition. I wish I would have picked up an event tshirt though, I was on a mission for parts and forgot to even get one. Our legs felt like they were going to fall off after the 11 HRS of walking. Glad to be home. ROBERT
A few small things, but my list was fairly short. I am looking for a pair of 36 chevy tail lights...or at least the housings. The lenses and trim rings are reproduced.
I went to Hershey on Saturday , last day of the event. What a shame to drive all that way when most of the flea market and parts vendors had packed up or were packing up when I arrived at 8:30 in the am. Can you believe that??? A whole day left for the show with perfect weather and everyone packnig up. The cars are always downright amazing, though. Things you see nowhere else. will post some pics tomorrow. Hey Russ...how much you pay for those oval early-mid 50's Buick headlight trim rings on your truck? Saw a guy at Carlisle that had a pair and was wondering if his price was right on or not. I passed on them. Andy
After bidding on a few on E bay and seeing them go for over $100 a pair, I found them at Auto Fair for $40.
Thanks Russ, I passed on the guys price of $175.00 for the pair. Thought it was a bit too much. Did you use the headlight buckets as well or just the trim rings?
Pull out your buckets. You will need to cut the headlight opening about 1/2 inch lower in the fender. Mount the buckets from the backside of the fender. put the buick rings over the headlights and drill for the one screw at the top, then the 2 on the face. I used truckstop amber lights for the front signals, used a hole saw to drill out the hole, then flush mounted them through the holes.
Pay attention ! As THIS is true Hot Rodding at it's American best , making something new out of what's at hand . NOT $pending your life's savings on crap from a catalog THANK YOU for that simple , DIY do-able advice ! .
Nothing wrong with being called a cheap bastard! I've been called both cheap and a bastard, mostly a bastard! Oh well, I must be misunderstood!
The hood ornament is a 50's ferd item. Looks like an airplane and fits the contours of the hood like it was meant to be. Just drill 3 holes and bolt it down. Found it at Autofair for $20.
