Grille and Hood install

Does anyone have any detailed photos of the grille installation for a '51? [should be the same for 47-53].

No help from the Assembly Manual again, as it is for the 54-55. I am getting no help from our host either. I just purchased the grille install hdwe. kit, but they did not include the screws that mate with the 18 speednuts (included). They cannot even tell me what size/head they are. I can tell where 14 of the speednuts go, but 4 of them I am not certain.

I would also like to know where the hood bumpers are installed. The six along the side of the hood were easy to figure out, but the two medium length and four long ones are a mystery.

In general, I need help figuring out the hardware connecting the upper baffle to the grille and front fenders.

I'll go out and shoot some pictures for you.

 

Carefully slide grille into opening, use screwdriver to attempt to line up bolt holes from inner fender, swear alot, and get at least 2 bolts started. There are 2 lag srews per side that have to go from behind the fender to the top grille bar. These require lots more swearing and unnatural positions to get to.
Be shure to use speed clips in the lower grill holes before you install, then put lag bolts into holes from underneath the splash apron.

Do you know the size and head style of the screws that go with the speednuts?

I believe that the hardware pack includes all 5/16-18 x1 or 1 1/2 " bolts.

Bolts in fender well, bottom are lag screw type.






And the 2 bolts that go into the bottom of the grille center, underneath.


The speed nuts I used around the bottom of the grille..



Latch panel instlled, with hood bumpers. Thick ones go here.


And 3 thin ones per side on the hood.


2 smaller lag screws go into the top grille bar per side. They are shorter than the others or else they will poke into the upper grille bar. They install from behind.

I am guessing the grille should be installed before the upper baffle, since those 4 screws on the upper bar would be impossible to install otherwise?

Also, I have two more holes in the upper baffle and I also have 4 of the thicker bumpers. I guess that is a '51 thing?

The grille mounting hdwe. kit from our host did not have the correct items, so I will have to get them from Lowe's.
