[updated:LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-02 AT 11:20 PM (CST)]I got a gmc with a 305 v6 and i here if i changed the heads i could make it a desiel. I was just wondering if i could do that. thank ya'll Cowboy
I doubt it Cowboy. Although many of the specs for the GMC "Toro-Flow" V6 are the same, such as crank size, etc. the block has some differences. For one the diesel has a Balance shaft in the block (turns off the timing gears) and provisions for the injector pump to mount and engage with the timing gears. When I had a GMC V6 I was always curious about putting one of them in my 65 as I was kinda a diesel fan. The smallest V6 diesel my book shows is the 351 cu in and only puts out 130 hp. Bruce
well thanks for your answer. I think if i find another 305 v6 i think i'll try it. but i'm in no hurry to do this i got to finish all my other projects first. If i can. Cowboy
I read some of the responses bellow. Even if you had a spare 305, I don't think that it would work, and would not be worth the cost. Do you have an extra set of heads now?? If you did, you probably have an engine as well. Also even if you had the heads, I am almost certain, that you would need different pistons(higher compression ratio). You also have some added costs such as Fuel Injection Pump, Injectors, Glow Plugs, and cycling switch just to name a few. If you are really interested in putting a Diesel into that Chevy of yours I would suggest getting your hands on a complete 6.2L or 6.5L either Turbo'd or not, both of these use the same bolt patterns as all of your SBC's, and old IN-LINE 6er's. The 6.2L and 6.5L do not cost that much to re-build, and can pick one up at a fairly reasonably price.
