    How to fix this cross member

    Hello Roy,
    I had the same questions to rebuild the bed. I have a '53 3/4 ton truck. What I had find out is that you have to fix the rear sill, take a spirit level held it over the other cross members, measure the space between the level and cross members. Then build a wooden block make a hole in the middle, take under the block a piece of rubber and fix it together with sill on the frame.
    I don't know if this kind of work is the same for a half ton truck.

    These photos are not made by me, I've got them from a friend.
    I hope I could help
    Wolfgang

    I Think what you are asking is wheather the crossmember is welded to the front bed panel or not. In mine it is. I welded the 2 together on the 53 also.

    Bed Parts & Service

    Roy ;

    Be aware that Mar - K is the one manufacturer that most vendors are selling as they alone make the true good stuff .

    So , save a few $ by ordering directly from them .

    They have a nifty booklet on bed rebuilding too .

    Hey Roy, here is their website www.mar-k.com

    In my opinion, you can't find better repop parts than what you get from these folks. I bought a tailgate for mine there, as well as the yellow pine wood for the bed.

    If you sign up for their newsletter , you'll soon discover they have periodic sales of bed parts and wood kits too.....

    As my '49 is still a working rig , I just welded up most of the cracks , sanded off most of the 257 & 3/4 old paint jobs and re-painted it , if ever I get some time and $$ , I'll break the bed all the way down and have it de-rusted before welding it some more and removing those pesky pop rivets and I'll weld on some rope hooks under the outer lip too as I don't like uncovered loads nor flapping tarpaulins :)

    I've seen a few done up like this , really good paint on an old bed ~ it looks nice and who cares if the paint gets scratched ? it's a TRUCK f' cryin' out loud :rolleyes:
    (note clever inclusion of Chevrolet Blue there....
