Can anyone tell me how or where I can get info on properly aligning the hood to get a clean fit. Thanks Rick
If you can get hold of a shop manual there is a section devoted to hood alignment. Quite a bit more involved than one would think. A computer savvy person could maybe get the instructions off the net.
hood They are right there is a lot to do. It is best to get a manual . You have to remove the hood latch put a 4inch block there . Then you have to check the back of the hood were you might have to shim it. Then you align it closed. THen if it still does not fit right, you should look at you back cab mounts, your radiator mounts and the rubber on the top of the inner fender wells.
Chevy truck shop manual Rick, the shop manual has some very good information on adjusting the hood. Here's a link to the sheet metal section of the manual. Good luck! http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm1101.htm
Thanks all for the info, didn't know there was that much involved with aligning the hood. Ken the link you provided is great, alot of info there.
just came across this... maybe it'll help http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bodywork/ad_hood_alignment.html
Quick hood alignment The key to getting the AD hood to lay flat against the cowl is outlined in detail in the Stovebolt link above. However, getting it to lay flat if the hood is not damaged could be accomplished in the time it takes to read all the information provided. Having aligned a number of them without any need for all the extra information: 1. It's best accomplished with 3 people.....one on each side of the hood back at the cowl area, and one to snug down the in-cab nuts. 2. A 4" block is used to prop up the hood at the latch. 3. Each of the 2 helpers puts one hand on top of the hood and the other on the side and both apply even heavy pressure down and back. Bare hands work best. Like so many things, friction is your friend. The cab-man snugs down the nuts. 4. Raise the hood carefully, tighten the engine compartment hinge bolts, remove the block and carefully lower the hood so you won't scratch the fenders. 5. Shim the fenders at the core support as needed. The key is to have even (heavy) pressure at the cowl. Hope this helps, Dave
