'47 gas spout

Hello everyone, I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

I just aquired a '47 without a bed and the gas tank is located where it should be according to the previous owner which is under the bed just behind the passenger side. I have a '50 also and the tank is behind the seat. I have another bed but don't understand where the gas spout would come out; is it through the splash apron or where?

Anyone with pictures, this would help the most for me.

Below is a link to a shot of my truyck at the curb and the moniker I use also show somewhat the location of the spout. included is a supersized photo of it in the driveway showing the location and the old home made spare holder I had two newer ones made but still attached to the posts. So it looks like it comes out in between the bed and the cab. Is that correct? That makes a lot more sense. Thanks so much for your quick response!

Under the bed where it's safe and should be...

 

Correct for my truck which has a nine foot bed on it. Larry's shows a little different place it comes out. I can not find the manual to it anywhere.

 

I have seen a couple of '47 short box half tons with the gas cap in the bed side wall between the bottom of the floor and above the splash apron - same as Larry's.

Do you have a picture inside the bed? Do you see the spout from there?

I believe they show the setup in the Factory Assembly Manual.

Jim Carter just started selling an underbed tank and support. Big bucks, but much safer than having gas in the cab with you IMO.

Oh yes , I've seen the NHTSA's crash test films (using mostly 50's ~ 60's GM trucks) where they dyed the gasoline red then had side impacts

A fireball right in there with you !

 

Here are pics of the filler from inside (under) the bed and from the outside. There is about 3 inches of bedside under the boards but above the filler panel, that's where the tube goes through.

I agree with all outside the cab is better. I will be doing that with my '50 for sure.
