Hi guys! Im used to work on vintage Volkswagens but just bought a 1949 Chevy pickup from Florida. Imported to Sweden, where I live. And I have some newbie questions. Where can I buy the chrome trims on the fenders, that some pickups have? Anyone who know? (see picture) thanks! Check out my website about lowrider Volks: www.meanbugs.com
Welcome Mental! What you have there is, in my opinion, one of the rarest surviving options available. They were optional equipment on the deluxe panel trucks. They were a 14 piece set of stainless steel brightwork (as Chevy called it.) No one makes reproduction sets of them. Unfortunately, most folks that have a set of them know how scarce they are and the demand for them. I saw a set of them sell on E-Bay a couple of years ago for over $1400! The rarest part of the package is what they called the front fender spear, which is the long single piece on the middle top part of each front fender. Enjoyed your VW website, and I know our resident vw expert (VWNate) will too. Ken
Actually there is someone making reproductions. I will have to see if I can find the name. As I understand it, they are handmade and the quality is excellent. Gonzalo at G & E creations in L.A. Calif. was making really nice reproductions by hand but sadly he passed away. His son took over the business & the last I heard.... he has no desire to continue making them. I believe that they have continied the production.
Okey thanks for the answer guys! I thought it was rare, because I havent seen these "fender spear" around much. Looks good! If anyone here know where to find them, let me know. Hope someone starts to reproduction otherwise! Luftgekühlt (aircooled) is the shit! Anyone more with VW's on here?
this was copied from another site. It is not me that owns a set of the reproductions: "G&E Creations" in Santa Fe Springs California is reproducing them by hand. I have a pair of them on my burb & they are nice. Last I heard he was in the $750 range for 2 spears http://www.hotrod.com/techarti...teel_trim/index.html http://yellowpages.mapquest.co...+Springs,+CA+90605
I have a complete set (somewhere) which I'm almost certain came off a suburban. I won't part with them but if someone is serious about reproducing some I'd loan them to pull specs off of them. A thorough background on business integrity/facility/reputation would be conducted and a cash deposit held in escrow, not my pocket, would be mandatory.
Just saw this listed on ebay. Here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/acce...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Good luck

Welcome ! I've been woreking onair cooled VW's since the 1960's , I had a shop in the glory days and I miss it greatly . Those trims were on DeLuxe panel trucks mostly , used to be fairly common until the late 1970's when most got scrapped . This is a freindly list so drop inoften and get aquainted , please sign your name or ' handle' to each and every post that we may get to know you better and you'll get more and better responses too The guys here know pretty much everything about these old trucks so don't hesitate to ask any question , no matter how mundane . If you take the time to look , almost everything you could want to know , has been covered in exhausting detail in older posts .
Thanks for the answers guys! Great. Expensive stuff, maybe I can find some other chrome trims that looks the same that I can fit and trim. Im posting some pics on some of my old rides I have restored, VW & Porsche. German engineering! Luftwaffe... Hope to post some pics on my 1949 Chevy 3100 soon, new imported from North Carolina and all the way to cold Sweden. 1950 Splitwindow My garage
