Hello, one question again. The screw in the cover of the differential, where I fill the oil into, has it to show to the top or down? Like on the photo? And how much oil I have to fill in the differential? My truck is a 3/4 ton truck with a 4 speed gear box. I found in the truck shop manual and in the operator manual to different capacities. In the shop manual 14 1/2 pints and in the operator manual 6 pt. What is right? Ask Wolfgang
Well, the oil filler plug (the screw in the cover of the differential) in my truck is towards the bottom rather than the top, though mine is a 55 1/2 ton so may be different to yours. But I can't think that I had a choice of which way up it went anyway. I mean the bolt holes would only line up in one place, so I'm surprised you get the option of up or down. With the amount of oil it's just fill it up to the bottom of the filler hole, when it starts to run back out of the hole it's full. If it's really cold when you fill it leave it a little below that level.
Fwiw ; The hole always goes down of center , just like a Mercedes These removable covers are called " Derby Covers " in English....
Hi Nate, merry Xmas to you. I have filled about 7 pt into the differential. Should I pump 2 pt out of the diffenential or doesn't it matter 2 pt more? Wolfgang
Differential Oil Level Just let it flow back out until it self - levels , same as the tranny .you needn't pump any out , just NEVER measure the oil level in the transmission or final drive ~ fill slowly until the next pump on the handle makes it burp back out , and VIOLA ! you're done , replace the filler plug & wipe up the dribble , you're all done .
