Hello Everyone, Does anyone have comments regarding pros and cons for relocation of the alternator, I like the mid level passenger side location. I am looking for clean look without the 50 feet of belt (that’s a joke). However, I do like the original large bracket that places the alternator on the top left near the thermostat housing. I have a short water pump with 350 engine, I guess somewhere it doesn’t protrude out to far. I will be using the three wires with the internal regulator. This may allow all of the wires (or most of them) on one side, choke, temp gage, etc. Thanks,
if your not going to use a/c i'd keep it on the left side and use a v-belt.If your using a/c that another can of worms. long water pump with reverse rotation and serpintine.I just bought a crate motor myself from chevrolet complete withwith a/c ,alt ,p.s and serpintine .But since your basicly starting from scratch like i said keep it on the left
Driver Side Top I decided to go with the head mount original bracket used on earlyer Chevys, placing the alternator on the driver side top. This will allow for power steering on the driver side bottom and air conditioning (a latter install) After reading should have went with the long water pump however, I wanted everything to be tight to the engine. After reading the article I also discovered that, a three grove pulley will also be needed. Thanks Bobby for the input. http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/49718_small_block_pumps_pulleys_brackets/index.html
