I'M USING ALL ORIGINAL PARTS, RADIATOR,FAN,WATERPUMP IS CORRECT AND 216 ENGINE. WHEN I PUT FENDER BRACES AT FACTORY SPEC LENGTHS, AND OTHER MEASURMENTS THAT I DOUBLE CHECKED ON OTHER TRUCKS, THEN MY FAN BLADE IS SMACK UP AGAINST RADIATOR.????I THOUGHT CAB NEEDED TO COME FORWARD BUT I NEVER CHANGED REAR MOUNTS, BUT DID PUT NEW BOTTOM OF CAB BRACES FOR FRT. MOUNTS. CAB CAN'T COME FORWARD BECAUSE OF STRG SHAFT THROUGH THE FIREWALL, IT HITS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE IN FIREWAll. I'M REALLY STUCK HERE. HELP ANYONE!!!!
Hi Randi It would be very helpfull if you could take some good pictures from your engine compartment/cab mount/Fender braces and show us the parts you have used? Normally if the engine and the radiator is mounted in the right position these "to close distance problems" wont occure with original parts ? Martinius
Thanks for the reply, i'll get some pictures and try to put them on site for you. Thanks again for being interested.
Randy, don't get bogged down by measurements on the braces, supports, etc. Mock it up without tightening any of the bolts, screws or nuts. There is a lot of wiggle room and if you think you need more room here and less there, do it. Don't worry that the manual says that the distance is 27". If 26 and 3/4" works better, go for it. Remember that the entire front clip and fitment hinges on the placement of the radiator support. If you get too frustrated, kick back, grab a lawn chair, drink a cold beverage of choice and cuss at it. Then regroup and tackle it the next day! It will work out for you! Ken
Your truck may have been previously hit, bumped or bruised. Factory measurements may not apply. Put it together losely line it up, then tighten up.
thanks for the advice, but if measurements are not right on. I have trouble lining hood up--too much gap between hood and cowl area. I have someone in my area stopping over to check it out, he also is doing a 49 chev. Hopefully an answer will come of it. If not a cold adult beverage sounds good, but it'll have to be indoors---wisconsin.
Randy Tell us how the truck front looked before you started dismanteling your parts. Have you done any major changes or are you still using the same parts ? I have been thinking in the same direction as Ol Chebby that your truck previously could have been hit and the frame/front mount/side mount therefore is out of position or wrid.I suggest that you take over some messuerements from your friends truck and compare them with your own? Normally these early trucks where made with some wider carroseri messures and they did `nt bother to much about excact connections in front. Martinius.
