I made a big mistake a couple of years ago and did not take pictures as i disassembled my truck. Now my question. When mounting my inner fenders, which way should the brackets on the toe board face? Looking at my Factory Assembly Manual - Section 11 Sheet 5.01 - it appears that the inner fender mounts on the inside (towards the engine) from the brackets with the bolts holding the brackets on the outside of the inner fender. Am I seeing this correctly? Thanks in advance for your help. I am very excited to finally be reassembling Old Blue. Craig
Skirt Install Bracket Craig, I took pictures however hard drive crashed long ago, I installed mine backwards and the inter fenders would hit the small toe board bracket, I had to revised them; this is the way they work for me. The assembly manual is very good but some photos are for interpretation. Don't forget the rubber seal that wraps the end of the inter fender edge at the firewall, (sheet 11-800)
Trying to remember Seems like I had this same question as I reassembled my front sheet metal. If I recall correctly, the assembly manual shows that on one side the bolt is on the engine side and on the other side the bolt is on the wheel side. Or maybe that is just how the previous owner had it set up. I'm at work right now so I can't look at the manual to refresh my memory. Seemed weird to me at the time, but the alignment of my fenders and hood are pretty screwed up anyway so I didn't worry about it too much. Stan
Thanks - I don't remember them being different when I took them apart, but it seems that the passenger side works with the bolts on the engine side and the driver side works with the bolts on the outside.
On my 59 the brackets are mounted in the same direction. If you are standing in front of the truck looking towards the firewall the two nuts that fasten the bracket to the cab are exposed to the driver side and the bracket comes down towards the passenger side and the bolt that mounts the inner fenders points towards the drivers side,BOY maybe I just muddyied up the water here, don't have a camera to show pictures but they both face the same direction! (towards the passenger side)this is the way they are on my 59 and I mounted them the same way on my 58 and it seems to work.Hope this helps,Allen
Picture Please Can someone please post a picture of the driver's side mount of the inner fender to the firewall? I still cannot make that think work. Is the bracket at 90 degrees?
The brackets on my '55 are exactly the same. Unfortunately, my inner fenders were flapping in the breeze when I bought my truck, so I can't tell which side of the bracket they were on. This bracket mounting is reall wierd. Makes you wonder what they were thinking. I have a feeling that the assemblers were right-handed, and they were able to spin the nuts on quicker with the brackets set this way. The engineers would have wanted to have the truck assembled symmetrically. Bob
Better late than never, maybe Craig, Your probably well past this now, but I finally remembered to take some shots of my inner fender brackets. I've include a page from the factory assembly manual. In the manual it looks like the brackets are facing the same way on both sides of the truck. That's why I put my back together the way I did. The shot from the wheel well is the driver’s side, and the engine bay shot is the passenger side. Hope this helps. Stan
