Anyone know what color the shocks were from the factory?

Hey Russ, for what it's worth, this came out of the Factory Assembly Manual.

To me, "natural" or "plain" makes me think of "metal". Something like this:

I'd think that it would be perfectly acceptable to do that or paint them the same black color as the frame.

The new ones are white, with no stickers. Silver maybe?

Silver would like good, in my opinion. Not a high gloss, but maybe a satin finish.

I'm not really THAT anal, just would like to know what they were on the 53. Since I have new ones, and they would be really easy to paint. Doesn't appear to be much info about them for a complete "correct" restoration.

    " Natural "

This means the cast iron body wasn't painted at all .

I well remember the lever shocks being a satin black color .

    Corrosion Resistant

They're cast iron and so don't need to be corrosion resisitant , only the innards will be damaged by corrosion .

Nate, you're describing single action shocks, '49 and prior. Ol' chebby is talking about shocks for the '53 he's rebuilding, so they should be tubular type shocks.

Yes, tube shocks. Doesn't seem very durable to leave them unpainted....

    NAPA link

Oops, I see the NAPA link isn't working, but it is Martin Senour #7250, Iron Cast. Bought it off the shelf at NAPA.
