Had some time on friday so I built some racks for the bed of my truck. I think it gives it a nice look. What do ya'll think? I also finished (for now) the interior, new door panels and door handles. Did the paint a couple months back.
Nice Truck What a nice looking truck. I am not a fan of side planks. But this truck looks so good noting can distract from it.
Great truck Great looking truck do you have any pics of your spare tire mount?? I just did the dip in my fender and now i need to find the rack. For the spare. Robert
Beautiful work JW, Nice work. I haven't seen a headliner w/o the center bar. Is this something new, or something you fabricated? I like the side rails, have thought about building my own, but I really want to match my bed wood exactly. Nice touch. Looks like the genuine article. Jim
JW, I like it! Of course, I need to see it first hand to be sure! We need to meet and check out each other's ride!
B.J has a rack hanging in the back of one of his box trucks. It would be pretty easy to make, if some are interested, I could get up with my fabricator friend and whittle out a few.
What a swell ride. I love the racks, I was planning on doing some just like that. Will you stain them or paint. With your colors it might be nice with one of the weathered look stains. Flashlight
That's Nice! Great looking truck! Once I've got my truck rolling, that will probably be something I'll _HAVE_ to add. We cut out two big trees from our back yard which means will have more sun. Which means my wife's shade loving plants will fry. Which means she'll have to plant different plants. Which means~ Heck, lets redo the whole garden layout. Which means lets dig up more of our back yard. Which means we'll need truckload after truckload of compost. Which means... Hey~ now she'll have to support my efforts in getting that beautiful G of mine back on the road! Thanks for the photo updates! Looks like all you have left is to DRIVE IT!!!! (Over to Kens!)
Robert, I will take some pictures of the tire mount and post. Jim the headliner is fabric and it's what was in the truck when I bought it. As far as the racks go I just built them out of some knotty pine boards, I liked the look of the wood and the price. When I repaint the truck and install new bed wood, which I believe is original, I will probly build new racks to match.I like your idea Flashlight of the weathered look, I may look into the weathered stain. Ken, sounds like a good idea. Get together someday and check out each others trucks.
Great truck! It looks like Texas has more than their fair share of sweet looking AD's I, too would be interested in seeing pics and dimensions of your side mount spare bracket if you get a chance. Josh
Nice looking truck there ! . I'm imagining driving it 'round the bend on one of my favorite Mountain roads overlooking the Desert far below , 235 purring and 2nd gear softly whining...... Pizza only 75 miles away . You've done well there . My old 1931 'A' Model had racks , I always thought it'd be neat to burn my shop's name in them....
me like JW - nice job. I have seen this design of side boards before - was that typical do you know? What size of lumber did you use? Looks like 1x3? and then 2x2 for the stakes? I assume you just have the two (front and rear) stake pockets on each side, so the two in the center must just be for vertical support of the step down boards? Is the front panel just screwed onto the side panels making it all one contiguous piece? I was trying to get a better idea as I may want to do something similar some day and stain it to match the bed floor wood. anyone else out there have examples of bed side board designs that they have come up with?
Here is a view of my truck when it lived in South Dakota. https://talk.classicparts.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1819&ppuser=5383 Also out at the curb, dd click and you will see the screws going into the boards interior bed side. https://talk.classicparts.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=1829&size=big&cat=&ppuser=5383
I don't know if there was a typical design for these racks. I think any design was used that would get the job done. I did use 1x3's and 2x2's. The center pieces are for support without stake pockets. The front panel is connected to the sides. I used 3 inch carriage bolts to put it all together. I have since stained with a Pecan finish and sealed it. The stain gives it a light brown aged look. JW
